Syntrium

Masterclasses in healthy cooking techniques

Carrigaline, Co. Cork — est. 2018

Teaching people
to cook with intent

Syntrium started with a straightforward observation: most cooking content online skips the reasoning behind the method. We built a platform where working with heat, fat, timing, and fresh ingredients gets explained in the same depth a professional kitchen demands — but structured for people learning at home, at their own pace.

Method before outcome

Each masterclass explains why a technique works, not just how to copy it.

Accessible from anywhere

All content is designed for learners in any region, with no equipment assumptions.

Ingredient-led thinking

We focus on what happens to food during preparation — texture, density, flavour compounds.

Instructors with real background

Every expert on the platform has worked professionally, not just academically.

The people behind the content

Small team. Deep experience in culinary education and programme development.

Ronan Tierney

Programme Director

Ronan came from an adult education background and joined Syntrium to shape how the curriculum is structured and sequenced. He makes sure a session on knife skills leads naturally into one on vegetable preparation, and that learners aren't asked to make conceptual leaps without the groundwork in place. His work is mostly invisible to learners — which is exactly how he prefers it.

What we're building

Platform direction

The immediate focus is on expanding content around whole grain cookery, plant-based protein preparation, and low-heat cooking methods. We're working on shorter reference modules — practical 10-minute segments for learners who already have foundational knowledge and need specific answers rather than full courses.

How sessions are made

Production approach

Every session is filmed in a controlled kitchen environment with overhead and lateral angles so that technique is visible from the perspective that matters. We don't use stock footage or substitute ingredients for visual effect. What appears in the video is what you would actually work with at home.
